Chinese businessman ‘kidnapped’ in DHA

KARACHI: A Chinese trader has gone missing from the Defence area and police suspect that he was abducted.

The Gizri police station had lodged an FIR on the complaint of a colleague of the missing trader under Section 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The complainant stated in his police statement that the trader left his residence in DHA’s Phase VII at 7pm on April 20 telling him that that he was going to a dinner with some Chinese friends. He went alone in a rented car, he said.

The complainant said that after a while he tried to contact him over the phone but could not get any reply. He then approached the person who rented the car to the victim and with his help the vehicle was traced and found abandoned on Khayaban-i-Ittehad at 12.30am.

The trader’s mobile phone was also found in the car. The 39-year-old Chinese national had come to Pakistan on Feb 25 for “some business purpose”.

DIG-South Sharjeel Kharal said the Chinese trader was not working on any project related to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

“We are probing the kidnapping incident from different angles,” he said, adding that so far no ransom call had been received.

An investigation team led by DSP Raja Tariq had been formed for the safe recovery of the Chinese national and arrest of the culprits.

Robbers shoot man to death

A young man was shot dead by armed robbers when he offered resistance, police said on Wednesday.

They said 26-year-old Aijaz Ayub was shot dead near Memon Medical Institute Hospital in Safoora Goth late on Tuesday night.

The body was shifted to a hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Two killed in ‘encounter’

Two suspects were killed in an alleged police encounter in the Ahsanabad area off Superhighway early on Wednesday morning.

The SITE-Superhighway police said that four muggers were looting people within the remit of the New Karachi Industrial Area police station when a police patrol arrived there.

The suspects, who were on motorbikes, tried to ride away but the police chased them and in an ensuing encounter near Ahsanabad killed two of them. However, their accomplices managed to escape, the police said.

The bodies were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors said both the deceased appeared to be in their teens.

The deceased persons could not be identified till late in the night.
